The Boomer Men Retire

According to the Boomer Wives

The managers have come home!
The titans of industry are in the kitchen!
The rocket scientists are in the garage!
The bigshots are in the laundry room!

And so we wives—who have upon occasion
ventured outside the house to work full-
or part-time, or volunteer, or chauffer the kids,
managing quite complicated lives, really,
are suddenly learning there is…

… a better, more logical way to load this dishwasher.

…we’ve got to box up all this stuff and give it away
so the garage can be neatly painted.

…this doesn’t seem like a man’s job , but there is
a faster, easier way to fold this underwear.

Oops…
They forgot they were supposed to check
their mantels of authority at the door.

They forgot they’re not working on-deadline
and dogging their team members to hit it.

They forgot they’re not in charge, so just because
they say one fold is enough, doesn’t keep the
underwear from ballooning out of the drawer.

Thankfully, these men can often be rehabilitated.
Better yet, they take over or share the tasks.

About Ann

I am interested in the strange beauty of brokenness, in transforming possibility in difficult times, in how we heal even when we can’t get better, in the alchemy of surrender, in the interplay of light and shadow, in the bounty of everyday wonders, in the gift of laughter…and writing about it, all and everything.
